I just finished a great book by Jeff Dyer, Hal Gregersen and Clayton M. Christensen called The Innovator’s DNA: Mastering the Five Skills of Disruptive Innovators. In it the authors share the results extensive interviews and research to identify the five skills of individual innovators and found in innovative organizations. They reference IDEO, Apple, Google, eBay, P&G and the Virgin Group among others.
The five innovation discovery skills are:
- Associating
- Questioning
- Observing
- Networking
- Experimenting
The authors do a great job of describing each of the skills and giving examples of how they are applied in great organizations. They provide a self-assessment test so you can determine your own potential for innovation.
The authors also provide a framework for creating a culture of innovation in your own company. They include checklists and tools to help you do this.
I recommend this book for your leadership library and welcome your comments. You can find the book at Amazon.com or Audible.com (I listened to it from Audible).
Steve, I just got back from the PGA Show and I wanted to tell you I love seeing the beginnings of your outreach to the world. As you know it will evolve as you yourself evolve. I look forward to being apart of your journey by reading and learning from your emails, etc.
