My previous post discussed Napoleon Hill’s list of successful leadership attributes. Considering it is just as essential to know what not to do as it is to know what to do, the following is Mr. Hill’s list of the ten major causes of failure in leadership:
- Inability to organize details
- Unwillingness to render humble service
- Expectation of pay for what they know instead of what they do with that which they know
- Fear of competition from followers
- Lack of imagination
- Selfishness
- Intemperance
- Disloyalty
- Emphasis of the authority of leadership
- Emphasis of title
Mr. Hill believes any one of these weaknesses can cause a failure in leadership. I encourage you to ponder the list. It is a worthwhile effort to improve your own leadership.
