Years ago I read My American Journey by Colin Powell and was impressed by his life and principles of leadership. One principle in particular stuck with me and I have applied it in my own life and in my coaching:
“Sleep before you decide.”
Mr. Powell has worked at the highest levels of the American government and often faced difficult decisions. He explained in his book that he made it a rule to get a night’s sleep before he made any significant decision. This helped remove emotion and brought clarity to the right course of action.
I found the principle to be true and recommend it in your own leadership.
