For Renewal: A Friend’s Greeting

11.30.13

We are now officially into the Christmas season and I thought a poem by Edgar A. Guest would be fitting as our thoughts turn to our friends and family and how we can express our love to them.

A Friend’s Greeting

I’d like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me;
I’d like to be the help that you’ve been always glad to be;
I’d like to mean as much to you each minute of the day
As you have meant, good friend of mine, to me along the way.
I’m wishing at this Christmas time that I could but repay
A portion of the gladness that you’ve strewn along my way;
And could I have one wish this year, this only would it be:
I’d like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me.

As you work through your Christmas list and think about gift giving, I encourage you to remember the most important gifts are likely not ones you can purchase and wrap.  The best gifts come from the heart.

Choose to be the best kind of friend.  Choose greatness.
